Whether you are navigating relationship difficulties, family tensions, work pressures, or a general sense that life feels overwhelming, you do not have to go through it alone.

My journey into counselling

My name is Angela Thorne, and I am a counsellor working with individuals, couples, and families near Ashford, Kent. Over the years, I have seen how life’s challenges — loss, change, conflict, or simply feeling stuck — can leave us feeling alone, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next.

My own journey into counselling began with a deep belief that everyone deserves to feel heard and understood, without judgement or pressure to “fix” things quickly. I was drawn to this work because I have witnessed, in my own life and in the lives of others, over the years, how talking in a safe, calm space can bring clarity, relief, and a renewed sense of hope. My experience as a parent, step-parent, foster carer and teacher has shown me the profound value of this work.

In our sessions, my priority is to create a warm, non-judgmental environment where you can bring whatever you are experiencing. You are welcome exactly as you are. We will move at your pace, gently exploring what is going on for you, and together we will begin to make sense of your feelings, your relationships, and the choices you are facing.

You do not have to have the “right” words, or even know exactly what you want from counselling. Simply turning up is a significant and courageous first step, and I am here to walk alongside you.

How I work

My approach to counselling is open, person-centred, and led by what you need from our time together. I offer a calm, non-judgmental space where you can talk openly at your own pace, and we work collaboratively to explore what is happening in your life and what feels most important for you to focus on.

In practice, this might include exploring your thoughts and feelings in the present moment, understanding how past experiences are affecting you now, or looking at patterns in your relationships. We might also focus on building practical coping strategies and strengthening your sense of self-worth and resilience.

Above all, our work together is a shared process. You remain in control of what you choose to talk about, and we will regularly check in to make sure that the pace and focus of our sessions feel right for you.
